Why I’m Running

For the past 15 years, I’ve worked alongside local governments to strengthen communities. This experience and perspective give me a clear understanding of where our government can do better for the people it serves. Combined with my previous service on the Tacoma Charter Review, I’ll bring valuable insight with no learning curve—ready to get to work on the issues that matter most to District 7 from day one. As your voice, I will focus on increasing government accountability and transparency, and ensuring our governing documents empower leaders to serve effectively and efficiently.

Accountability:
Pierce County residents deserve—and should demand—a county government that is accountable. That includes its elected officials and the people who work within it. I will work to ensure the Charter includes strong checks and balances, giving the public essential oversight powers. This includes accountability in public safety, particularly within the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office. The Commission must carefully examine the Sheriff’s authority, evaluate the current oversight mechanisms, and make meaningful changes for voters to consider, if necessary.

Transparency:
Throughout my professional career, I have served in government roles that demanded integrity and openness. One guiding value I carry is transparency. As stewards of public dollars, government deliberations and actions must be conducted in full view of the people. I am committed to strengthening transparency at all levels of county government.

Effective & Efficient Governance:
The Pierce County Charter, adopted in 1980, still contains provisions that are more than three decades old. It’s our responsibility as Charter Review Commissioners to modernize those sections and ensure our government is built to meet 21st-century needs. This includes revisiting purchasing and procurement rules—especially where outdated limits prevent efficiency—and considering automatic adjustments for inflation. I will collaborate with stakeholders, including public administrators who manage these processes daily, to identify areas where improvements will better support their work and, ultimately, the people they serve.
